Water Toys- Safety The Top Priority

Every year more than 600 people die drowning in water. It is sad that proper precautions are not taken to overcome this problem. But in recent times people are working really very hard to bring down the numbers and have setup appropriate precautions. A child doesn’t know how to handle or play with water which leads to drowning most of time. Since all they want is to have fun and enjoy themselves they become numb and blunt to its unfortunate consequences. So it is the duty of the parents to look after their children carefully when they are playing in water.

According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, child deaths due to drowning, includes children mostly between the age of 1 and 4. Since children play with water toys it becomes necessary to provide them with the toys which are ultimately safe. Most of these accidents occur in swimming pools and also beaches. Safety toys, is the only solution to this problem. It is important to know the water-safety essentials and the dangers behind drowning. The following are some the safety measures which can be taken when a child plays in water.

  •         Always Keep An Eye On The Child When he/she Is Around Water

Lois lee, M.D., M.P.H., a medicine specialist in Boston Children’s Hospital has told that kids can drown within 25 seconds even in apool. Kids who are not trained swimmers must be under supervision every time. It means that the parent or guardian must be along with the children taking care of them. Once the child is trained completely, he/she does not require the help of the parent or the guardian any more. The fact is that kids won’t shout or scream when they are about to drown as it is very quick and quite.

  •         Join Your Children For Swimming Classes

According to American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), children can take up swimming classes from the age of four. Even when the child has good abilities to swim, he/she must be accompanied by a guardian in the pool.

  •         Do Not Use Your Phones

Anne Beasley, M.D., a pediatrician at Phoenix Children’s Hospital has told that the longer we use our phones in pool the higher we lose control or safety over our children as phones are one of the major reasons due to which accidents are caused. We should keep track of the address of the swimming as it may useful at times of emergency to report the same to a 911 operator.

  •         Make Sure Your Child Knows The Rules

We have to strictly advice our children on the precautions taken while at swimming pools or any water body and ensure that they follow them correctly.

o   No running

o   No diving when the pool is very shallow

o   We must not pull each other for fun

o   We should not pull the kids or drown them to make it interesting

o   We must not swim until we are accompanied by a supervisor

Dr. Callahan advised that the adults must also be accompanied by trained supervisors to avoid accidents and ensure safety.
